Yeah, He's History Making, All Right

With unparalleled enthusiasm and jubilant glee, one commentator after another told us how ground breaking yesterday's session of the Democratic Convention was. For the first time in history, an African-American has been nominated by a major party to be President of the United States.

It's historical all right. And if Obama were a candidate I actually respected, if for example, a man like Walter Williams or Clarence Thomas were running, I would join the celebration.

Unfortunately, there are many other firsts associated with Obama:

This is the first time a man was nominated whom people knew so little about, other than the fact that he gives a good speech and talks about change.

And it's the first time they nominated a man who draws a moral equivalency between Russia's attack against a free country and our removal of a bloodthirsty, sadistic dictator in Iraq.

Speaking of dictators, this is the first nomination for a man who will sit down and talk to a holocaust denier who promises  a new holocaust, the destruction of Israel.

It's also the first time our country has nominated a man who voted in favor of infanticide.

And it's the first time we've nominated a man who was mentored for twenty years by a racist pastor.

Finally, it's the first time we nominated a man who befriends a self-confessed, unrepentant terrorist who tried to blow up our Capital. Obama just showed another side of himself with this one. A recent political ad, paid for by the American Issues Project, shows a tighter relationship with Bill Ayers than Obama owned up to when this story first broke. In an attempt to silence AIP and shut them down, Obama is using his clout as a Senator to have the Justice Department investigate their organization. Is this what we can expect from an Obama presidency?  Will he bully or silence anyone who criticizes him?  That ought not surprise us. He has already gone on record as supporting the Fairness Doctrine. Oh well, at least under his presidency, Obama's comparisons with Russia will be more accurate.

Let's add it up: Yes, this is the first time America has nominated an African-American. And the first time America has nominated a man with a racist pastor, a terrorist friend, a vision that sees America as the moral equivalent of Russia, a willingness to talk with a holocaust denier and a man who voted for the death of babies in a hospital. Yes, there are many firsts indeed. But I'll tell you what is not a first. It is not the first time a politician offered change!  Unfortunately, when Obama promises change, it is the only time he is speaking the truth. Things will change under an Obama presidency, all right. Of that, you can be quite certain!  I would think that if you are not bothered by the vote for infanticide, or the racist ties, or the terrorist ties, or his naive, pea brained view of world affairs, you would at least be concerned about a man who investigates any organization that wants to use their constitutional right for free speech.

Many will not give a hoot in hell about any of this. At least, not right now, not with all the fun talk about change. But if this man is elected, our country will start going the way of a dictatorship. We will no longer need to worry about what is or is not constitutional because our constitution will be so re-interpreted by activist judges, we won't even recognize the paper on which it is written. Dictators always rise for the same reason: Well -intentioned people who respond to smooth flowing rhetoric but who do not actually know how to think. The ambition of a dictator is half of the recipe. The stupidity of people is the other half.  God save America.

Who Says Democrats Aren't the Party of Faith?

Hillary endorsed Barrack Obama last night in a dynamic speech.  Some say she had to do this. She could not have a future in the Democratic Party without endorsing their candidate. Others say she deliberately did so well, to make Obama look bad by comparison, or at least make people regret that he did not chose her as his running mate.

For myself, I believe Hillary meant every word.  I believe she truly wants to see Obama win this election.

I also believe she loves the fact that this ruins her chances to try again in 2012.

While we're on the subject of belief, I believe she must have been lying when she said, during the primaries, how unqualified Obama was to be President and what great experience John McCain has.

I also believe she is just delighted that Obama passed her over for VP, especially since her votes were in the millions and Biden's were in the thousands.  This made her feel ecstatic about an Obama/Biden victory over John McCain.

And I believe that when her husband, Bill Clinton, said in a speech of his own yesterday, he would rather vote for a competent man who agrees with him half of the time than an incompetent man who agrees with him all of the time, that he was talking only hypothetically and never intended anyone to assume he had Obama in mind.  After all, on the week of the Democratic Convention, there's any number of people he could have been referring to.  Bill says this doesn't apply to any one specifically and his word has proven so trustworthy in the past. In fact, Bill Clinton's word is good as gold!  Besides, didn't the primary make it clear how much he and Obama just simply love and adore each other?

Come to think of it, I believe the Democrats on a lot of matters. Time has shown them to be such straight shooters!

I believed them when they insisted that Obama had plenty of foreign policy experience.

And I believe them now when they say Biden is a good pick because he balances out Obama by bringing foreign policy experience to the ticket.

I believe them when they talk about how disgusting it is to be too rich, especially when each of our Democratic Senators are so poor themselves. In fact, John Kerry only has six homes to McCain's seven. Man oh man! I'm telling you:  This is like comparing the prince with the pauper.

I also believe them when they oppose school choice. That must be why their own children go to private schools. It helps them keep an eye on these schools, thus, being in a better position to speak against them.

And I believe them when they claim to be the party which looks after the weak and disenfranchised, the party that's going to take care of everybody.  I guess babies don't fit the description of helpless people who need to be taken care of.  That's why partial birth abortion is a practice that lines up so well with the Democratic platform.

I also believe their concern for Global Warming and emission controls. That must be why they fly around the country on their private jets to give speeches about this subject.

And I believe them when they court Evangelicals, claiming to be the "true party of Jesus."  I'm sure Jesus would have supported a candidate who voted against a bill that blocked infanticide.  When Jesus warned us against harming children, he was thinking that Obama was a special exception. After all, Obama is a fellow Messiah.  Oh, and Jesus would also have been for gay marriage, even though He told us that the entire Bible is the Word of God and the Bible calls homosexuality a sin.  You see, Jesus is  actually testing us.  He hopes we'll ignore the Bible and just believe whatever we want.

I also believe our Democrat friends when they say Bush lied about the WMD's of Iraq; even though the Clintons, John Kerry and Joseph Biden made identical claims.

And I believe Obama is the candidate that will bring real change to Washington.   He's so refreshing to listen to!  When has a candidate ever promised change before?  And his positions are incredibly original!  Who says he sounds like every liberal Democrat whom we've been listening to for the last twenty years?  He doesn't sound that way at all!  And if you think he does, you're confusing him for somebody else. Who?  Um...Every liberal Democrat whom we've been listening to for the last twenty years.

You know something?  When it comes right down to it, I believe the Democrats about everything.  They are indeed the party of faith.  It takes as much faith to believe them as to accept any other religion or fantasy.  Yes, I believe in them with all my heart.  Now, if you'll excuse me, it's getting closer to the Christmas season and I have not yet written my letter to Santa.

How Do I Know the Blunder Wasn't Serious? It Came From A Democrat, That's Why!

When Obama introduced Joseph Biden as his running mate, he called him "the next President of the United States."  I guess, for a moment, ol' Joe thought his promotion was even better than it had been at the beginning of the day. Then, when Biden spoke himself, he referred to his running mate as "Barrack America."

Now look, I don't really care about any of this.  We all slip up verbally and those who do a lot of public speaking make even more blunders. God knows I've committed my share.

What bothers me, is that we never heard the end of Bush's goofs. And when Dan Quayle misspelled the word potato, the media acted as if this man was just too stupid to run for office, even though his opponent, Al Gore, had said, during the same campaign, that you couldn't get a zebra to change his spots.

Either these stories should not be in the news at all (my choice) or they should be more evenly distributed between Democrats and Republicans. Perhaps the same, liberal, mainstream press that believes in affirmative action, can add some rules and quotas about making fun of one party, only in proportion to the amount of jesting aimed at the other party. We won't live to see the day, but a man can dream, can't he?

He Thanked Me For My Sermon. Then He Depressed Me.

Yesterday I spoke at a large church in San Diego. When I was finished, a college student (or at least someone who looked that age) came up to me and shook my hand.

"I really liked your message, but I didn't like what you said about Obama."

Actually, my message was not about Obama, although I made a joke about him in passing, a statement not more than thirty seconds long. I suppose the remark could have gone unspoken, at least in that context, as it had nothing to do with the purpose of my sermon. But that doesn't mean Obama should not be discussed in church. As a matter of fact, this comment from the student made me wish that my ENTIRE SERMON had been about Obama. Part of being a Christian is warning people and speaking out against evil.

In any event, the student said he was an Obama supporter and you'll never guess the reason he put forth: "Change!  We need Change!"

"Change for what?" I asked. A fair question that never seems to be asked or answered.

"Change for the good!" he smiled with enthusiasm. Then he walked away. This was the totality of our conversation. This is about as much as any supporter of Obama is willing to dialogue with another.

I know the student meant well. He is representative of many younger Evangelicals who are being influenced by this mindless euphoria.
I mean no disrespect, as I could see the guy's sincerity, but I am equally convinced that one who trully believes in the Bible, (not one who merely calls himself a Christian) will not vote for this man unless it means he understands absolutely nothing about the kinds of laws Obama will help pass.

Below is a link to a blog I wrote a few months ago. It was addressed to Evangelicals who support Obama. It is dated, only in the sense that Obama'a v
ote to stop a law that would have prevented infanticide was not yet in the front of the news. But there were plenty of other matters which should give Christians pause.  Please circulate this blog and the link to my detailed, passionate plea to Evangelicals.

For the record: I do not believe Obama is the Anti-Christ, as other Christians have suggested. Unfortunately, Christians are following him for the same reason that people someday will follow the real Anti-Christ, deception over the charm and charisma of one who stands for the opposite of our beliefs and values!

Let me be as clear and as blunt as I possibly can: One who would support Obama in the name of Christianity, either knows nothing about Obama, or knows nothing about Christianity. It is just that simple.

Obama Just Threw The Election...Unless...

I never thought I'd be thanking God in prayer for the nomination of Joseph Biden. I believe Obama just threw the election. Politics is very volatile and therefore difficult to predict, so I would not bet my life on it, but if I was in Las Vegas tonight, I might just bet some money on it.  Yes, that's the breaking news this evening: Obama picked Joseph Biden as his running mate. I was so hoping he would do this.  It clinches everything.  I literally find myself laughing out loud!

Thanks to this bumbling, inept decision, the Democratic Party remains split between the Clinton and Obama supporters. Much as Obama hates Hillary, he should have listened to those who warned him that he could not win the election without this scorned woman, of which, hell hath no furry.  With her delegates still unreleased, a vote coming up on the convention floor, and with two promised prime time convention speeches, one for her and another for Billy, who knows what havoc the Clintons may reek at the convention, not to mention the two and a half months they have to dig up more dirt on Obama, all the while covering their tracks to hide themselves as the source?

And then, of course, there’s Biden himself, who once lost a presidential race of his own for plagiarism, who supported the war in Iraq and insisted that Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. How will he and Obama speak against McCain's support of the war now?  Most importantly of all, Biden commented repeatedly during the race for the nomination, about how inexperienced Obama was and how unqualified this youngster is to be president. True, it is common for rivals to make amends after the nomination and put bad blood behind them, but these are the days of the internet, when speeches or sound bites from Biden can be repeatedly used as the best McCain campaign commercials money can buy.

Lately Obama has been the gift that keeps on giving, with his stupid comments about China, his stupid comments about Russia, his waffling on abortion and his down right lying about a vote that promoted infanticide. That last one is tragic, nothing to really celebrate, except that if it prevents the man from becoming our next president, it will at least make us grateful for the story to have broken in time.

Add into the mix, his racist pastor, Rev. Wright  and his terrorist friend, Bill Ayers, and well…This may just be too much change for America, far more than Obama had been offering.

McCain has the election in the bag…..unless….he does something really idiotic, like picking a Pro-Choice running mate.  I wonder if Hillary has approached him to broker a deal.  Reaching across the isle to Senator Clinton would be such a John McCain thing to do.  Nightmarish as that sounds, I think even McCain knows how suicidal it would be. Let’s just hope he also knows it would be equally suicidal to pick any other Pro-Choice running mate.

The Day An Event Cancelled Itself

You're going to love this one: A special outdoor rally was planned in Australia. The purpose: To show solidarity against the world's greatest threat. Exactly what is this threat? Militant Islam? Supression of free speech?  Russia trying to turn itself into the Soviet Union again?  Wrong on all three accounts. Thank you for playing. We still have lovely luggage for you. And now, the correct answer, in fact, the Politically Correct answer: That horrible menace is Global Warming.

Only one problem. People did not show up for the event in record numbers as anticipated. Truth be told, the turn out was rather dismal and the festivities were eventually discontinued. Why? Well, it seems that in Australia, they experience Winter this time of the year, as they have for countless centuries. The outdoor rally against Global Warming was cancelled because it was too cold outside.

An Identity Crisis: God or Satan?

“In the Old Testament, King David, (apparently out of pride) decided to take a census of Israel. This bothered God very much. As a result, God punished David and the entire nation.  The problem is that 1 Chronicles and 2 Samuel give two completely contradictory accounts of this incident.  The writer of Chronicles tells us that Satan put the idea into David’s mind. The writer of Samuel tells us that God put the idea into David’s mind. We couldn’t possibly have more of a contradiction!”

1 Chron 21:1

Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.

 2 Sam 24:1

Again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, "Go and take a census of Israel and Judah."

Yes, this does look like a contradiction.  The solution comes with an understanding of the way ancient Jews spoke.  They used extreme, exaggerated phrases and spoke somewhat poetically a great deal of the time.  They also talked from the point of view of God’s sovereignty.  At times, they spoke as if every event, (even an action of Satan ) was caused by God. What they meant, of course, is that every event is allowed by God. He may disapprove, but He still allows the free will of people and even the free will of evil spirits.   An ancient Jew could say that Satan told David to take the census. This same Jew could say God told David to take the census and mean, that God allowed Satan to tell David to take the census. Strange as it may seem to us, the ancient Jews would not have even flinched with such a variety of speech. We must realize that if the Bible did not contradict itself to the original audience it was written for, it cannot contradict itself to us.

If you’ll notice, God was just as upset with David in either account:

1 Chron 21:7-8

This command was also evil in the sight of God; so he punished Israel.

Then David said to God, "I have sinned greatly by doing this. Now, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing."

The LORD said to Gad, David's seer, 10 "Go and tell David, 'This is what the LORD says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.'"

2 Sam 24:10-12

David was conscience-stricken after he had counted the fighting men, and he said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, O LORD, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing."

Before David got up the next morning, the word of the LORD had come to Gad the prophet, David's seer: "Go and tell David, 'This is what the LORD says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.'"

Wouldn’t this be an even bigger contradiction, that God would get cross with David for doing the very thing, He, Himself commanded?  The obvious answer is that God did not command it. He allowed Satan to put the idea in David’s mind. There is Biblical precedent for God permitting Satan to do things that are against His ideal will:

Job 1:9-12

"Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.  "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.  But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face."

The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger."

And yet, throughout the book of Job, people talk is if this calamity came from God. Satan is never mentioned again after Chapter Two.  Even when God talks to Job at the end of the book, God does not feel the need to deny the suggestion that He did this. That’s because “God doing it” or “God allowing Satan to do it” were simply two different ways of saying the same thing.

Test Yourself: Do You Really Want This Man As Your President?

Test Yourself!  How well do you really know Obama and exactly what is it about this man that qualifies him to be President?

Here are the rules for the test: You must describe why Obama will actually make this a better country and you must omit the following:

1) Because he’s African-American: (According to Martin Luther King, we judge people by their character, not the color of their skin.)

2) Because he talks about change : (This must be omitted, unless you are prepared to explain exactly what will change and why this change will be a good change. The word change, in and of itself, describes absolutely nothing.

3) Because he is a charismatic speaker: (So was Hitler. In fact, Hitler is considered one of the greatest speakers who ever lived. No, I am not comparing Obama to Hitler. Don’t even go there. Take a deep breath and try to grasp my point. I am merely pointing out why being a good speaker is not, in and of itself, a reason to be President.)

4) Because he’s not George Bush: (This answer would only be valid if you explained what it was about George Bush that hurt our country, and how Obama will make this right.)

5) Because he believes in unity: (His definition of unity, is that Republicans should do things the way Democrats want them done. Unless you can explain how this is true unity, you must omit this one as well.)

6) Because he’s a Christian: (You may only use this reason if you explain how one can claim to be a Christian ,yet denounce the authority of the Bible by disagreeing with what it says about hell and any other thing Obama chooses not to believe.)

So much for the subjects to be omitted. Here is what must be included: Since we do know some things about the man’s beliefs and voting record, in your defense of Obama, please find a way to defend the following items:

1) Suppression of free speech (Fairness Doctrine, Hate Speech Legislation): How do such laws square with a constitution that guarantees free speech?  Explain in full and leave out all that garbage about how the constitution is a “living breathing document.”

2) Infanticide: Obama voted against a bill that would have stopped infanticide in Illinois. Reconcile that position with Christianity, since the man claims to be a Christian. In fact, never mind Christianity. Just reconcile this with common human decency.

3) Lying: Obama claims he did not vote against this bill in Illinois. His own campaign representatives finally admitted that he did, in fact, cast this vote. They had no choice but to admit this. It was a matter of public record.

4) His willingness to sit down and talk to terrorists: Since any terrorist expert will tell you that such a display of weakness only encourages more terrorism, explain, please, how we will be safer with Obama as President.

OK. You are ready now to start. Aside from the fact that he’s an African American who talks about change and gives a good speech, why would you want to elect a spineless, lying, baby killing suppressor of free speech as President?

NOTE:  I know I’ve been rather hard on Obama lately but try to understand: THIS MAN WANTS TO BE OUR PRESIDENT!!!

Say, Doc, Will I Ever Be Allowed To Play The Violin Again? Because You Won't!

Brace yourselves for another unbelievable law!  Actually, there will be one thing about this story easy to belief.  It takes place in California. If it happened anywhere else, you might have to suspend belief. Guadalupe Benitez visited the North Coast Medical Group in 2001, seeking artificial insemination. Two Christian doctors refused treatment on the basis that it violated their personal, religious beliefs. They did offer to refer the young woman to other doctors and assured her that many would be willing to perform this procedure. Well, that wasn't good enough for Benitez and she filed a lawsuit. The suit was based on a law that bans discrimination due to sexual orientation. Finally reaching the California Supreme Court a few days ago, the judges ruled in her favor.

Says  Benitez, "It was an awful thing to go through. It was very painful, the fact that you have someone telling you they will not help you because of who you are."

I think Miss Benitez is missing the point: The doctors were not refusing to help her because of who she is. They were refusing to help her because of who they were!  They were Christians, with their own identities, their own beliefs, their own standards and their own morals. Neither were they refusing to help her at all. They did not slam the door in her face. They offered assistance in finding another doctor. Why was that not good enough?  Could it be because she was intolerant of their beliefs?

What about religious liberty?  What about religious discrimination? The good news, is that the California Supreme Court remembered  such rights do exist in the California Constitution. But remembering this right, is the only thing they accomplished. Actually defending that right, would have been even more of an accomplishment. They claimed that religious liberty, while protected in the constitution, was not an excuse for discrimination. Hmm...Makes sense to me. Why should these robed men defend one's belief in God, when they think they, themselves, are God?

Supposedly, we live in a country that guarantees separation between church and state. Those words are not actually found in our constitution, but let's put that aside for a moment. To those who embrace this principle of separation, tell me, how come the separation never works the other way?  Why is it that doctors are being forced to compromise their beliefs, while secularists fight for the right to not even have to look at a manger scene on somebody's front lawn?  Why is it that God cannot be defended in a college class room, but a professor can rip into Christianity in a public classroom?  I'll tell you why: Because the people who squeak about separation between church and state do not really want separation. They want Christianity to be made against the law, and it is starting to happen one step at a time.

What our constitution actually says is, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Call me a romantic, but when doctors are told that they cannot practice their profession in step with their religion, is that not interfering with the "free exercise thereof?"

What's next?  Will it be considered discrimination for a Christian church to ask for Christian beliefs before accepting one as a member? No, not so long as we change our definition of repentance to exempt homosexuality.  If not, we are the worst hate mongers on earth and we do not deserve to practice our religion. In the name of tolerance, our religion will no longer be tolerated.
